"APPNA Ghar" - Subsidized residence for Pakistani female doctors/Med Students
I am delighted to inform you about the establishment of the first female "APPNA GHAR" in New Jersey. APPNA GHAR is one of the facilities born out of a tremendous need for incoming new graduates from Pakistan to have a subsidized residential facility where they can live easily, while preparing and taking the CSA (Clinical Skills Assessment), take interviews and improve their credentials by gaining US clinical experience. Before the creation of these facilities in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and New York, these candidates were at a disadvantage; they could not afford the high expenditure to stay in big cities to take the CSA exam on time or to obtain volunteer research work in US, and therefore ended up with a less than competitive CV. As a result many of them went unmatched despite obtaining scores in the 90th percentile and spending a fortune during this lengthy process. We have already set up a two bedroom apartment in central New Jersey, "Rahway", half a mile from train station, 30 minutes ride to New York City, 90 minutes ride to Philadelphia, PA. House can accommodate 6-8 students at a time. We have student living there while going through interview process at the Tri-State area.
